Caught this show last night.
I’m trying to think of how to describe how wonderful, charming, and winning it was and explain how incredibly talented Kate Micucci is with out sounding like some sort of ridiculous uber-fan.
So, all I will say to you is go.  You’ll be in a better mood for having seen this show.  You’ll be inspired by her talent.  And you’ll be glad you saw her now because I walked out of there and told my friend that this was the cheapest we would ever pay to see her perform live.
Oh, and did I mention she gives out cookie pops at the end of each show?

Beverly Hills High School Connectivity

BHHS

So I spent some time this AM on Facebook and stumbled across a few classmates from my days at Beverly High. So I decided to check and see if anyone else from my graduating class was also on the system.

It was interesting to note there were only 83 people who are on Facebook and note themselves as being part of my graduating class.

So this got me thinking about how connected the various class years are.

So as of today and not taking into account those on the system who did not put the school on their profile here are the results.

Graph of BHHS grads on FB

Clearly we see a trend as the years go on that more and more of graduating class is on Facebook till 2007 and 2008 which maxed out at 500+ (Facebook does not show how many beyond the 500). Current there are about 646 students enrolled at BHHS which gives us a fair idea of the percentage of the whole for any given year.

Also of interest was how many of the more notable graduates of the high school have real Facebook profiles and how many of them are actually using those profiles to stay in touch with old friends.

Why not take a moment and update your profile and see who is around from your past. It is always worth staying connected.

Cool new software: "Yelp on Crack"

Hi there y’all!

I’ve got some invites to a new software application that I’d love to give out.

I’d describe it [more precisely] as “Yahoo Answers in real-time over IM”.  It finds you answers to questions from people, instead of web pages.

It’s the work of some ex-Google engineers and I’ve had a great time playing with it (I’m also doing some consulting for them).  I’ve gotten amazing book recommendations, analysis on a Bible passage, and a lesson on why oil is more expensive in CA than other states.  Any topic is ripe.

Drop me an email if you’d like to try it!

Tonight: Midnight Ridazz

Hey Tumblr Nerds!

Do you own a bicyle? Do you enjoy riding at night with a bottle of beer in your hand with hundreds of other hipsters bicyclists? Then join us tonight for The Midnight Ridazz Pillow Fight Ride.

We’re meeting at the Echo Park Lake at 9:30PM. We roll out at 10PM.

To those of you who’ve never been on these rides, it’s amazingly fun. Hundreds of people on bikes riding thru the streets of LA. You see a totally different Los Angeles when you’re riding street level on two wheels. Lots of cool people, bikes with stereos attached to them for music, and sometimes there’s a little chaos. It’s never boring.

If you want to participate in the Pillow Fight be sure to bring a pillow (but don’t hit me because I’ll be taking your picture).

For details, go here: Midnight Ridazz Pillow Fight II Ride

For pictures of past rides, take a look at some of my photos here and here. To see what a giant pillow fight with random peeps looks like, go here.

Also, if you go I’ll be Twittering throughout the ride, so if you want to say hi just DM me @slippy.

I LOVE YOU ALL.

That’s not me smiling, but that dude will be at the ride.

re: Sucky TJ's parking and other problems

I have to say that the TJ’s in Studio City is ridiculous— I’ve left there without getting inside the store enough times that I just stopped trying altogether.  The one in downtown Burbank at Alameda and San Fernando does ok, though still a bit busy.  But it’s also in downtown Burbank, so not that convenient to most.

Might I suggest Fresh and Easy?  We’ve been going to the one where the Hollywood Entertainment Museum used to be on Hollywood and Sycamore (under the Knitting Factory).  I know, it’s a ridiculous place for a grocery store, but you can get in and out easily on weekend mornings, they have validated parking for the garages, and are very comparable to TJ’s on price and selection (though they also have brand name cereals and snacks and stuff).  They take a lot of their own brand products from the same suppliers TJ’s uses.  I really hate grocery shopping, and going there instead of insane TJ’s or Wholefoods or shitty Ralph’s has lowered my stress levels significantly.  There’s a big location in Eagle Rock that’s really nice too.

I swear I don’t work for them.  Just a convert!

re: Why do all TJ's parking lots "suck ass"

I happened to ask my dad this exact question when he was visiting (although I think I phrased it differently). As a land developer/contractor/builder his answer was that the undesirable parking lots mean that the building is probably cheaper to rent (which is how TJ’s is able to pass the savings of those Druid Cookies on to you).

That’s the best insight I can give you from a man who has used the same bottle of listerine for the past 4 years (he keeps refilling it with new mouthwash—-the yellow non-minty flavor).

What I want to know is why they make buying produce so damn hard. What if I only want 3 apples or 5 apples TJ?! Why have you decided that I can I only have 4? Is this communist Russia?!

Your best bet is the TJ’s on Santa Monica Blvd near Formosa, but don’t tell anyone.

Downtown LA makes a great BG for pictures.Downtown LA makes a great BG for pictures.

And here’s a question, why do all Trader Joe’s parking lots suck ass?

Has anyone else ever noticed this?  Traffic inside Trader Joe’s on Third and La Brea repeatedly spills out onto Third street and blocks the right lane.  Trader Joe’s in Culver City does all right with the adjacent garage, but can still be a nightmare.  Trader Joe’s in Santa Monica is a monstrous joke with no punch line, only tears and wasted youth.

And the Trader Joe’s on Hyperion in Silverlake ALSO causes traffic problems in the street so many people are trying to get into the lot.  It looks like people trying to get into Disneyland.

The first time I went out of my house today was to do some grocery shopping.  I couldn’t have been in a more mellow, calm mood but inside of 5 minutes, I find myself yelling at some guy in the Trader Joe’s parking lot.  He decided to pass the RIDICULOUS queue of cars waiting for spots in the lot, pulled ahead of me and everyone else and took the a space I was next in line for.  I almost killed him.  Before he was out of the car I was at his door asking him what his problem was.

And why?  For what?  For the damn Druid Circle cookies?

Yeah, Trader Joe’s is great.  It’s so fucking great, with their fucking organic peanut butter and low prices and gee, if we all ate Trader Joe’s food all the time we’d be one happy nest of assholes living in tree houses.

I went to Gelson’s and paid 40 dollars more and parked my car in a lot that wasn’t designed in the shape of Satan’s urethra.
